Virtual Roundtable

ACCA Americas and the Institute of Caribbean Studies held an exclusive virtual roundtable discussion on September 21, 2017 under the theme, “The Future of Global Mobility: Its Impact and Options for the Accounting Profession.

The event was co-hosted by ACCA Americas, lead by Julie Missimore, Head of Policy and the Institute of Caribbean Studies, chaired by Dr. Claire Nelson, President and Founder.

Participants, mainly from the Mid-Atlantic region of the US shared their experiences as professional Accountants living and working in the Caribbean and transitioning to the United States.

The main speaker was: George S. Willie, CPA, CGMA, CGFM, and Managing Partner, Bert Smith & Co.

The ACCA of the Americas Global office based in Washington DC engaged the Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS), Washington DC to conduct a research project including dialogues to discuss Global Mobility among Caribbean Accountants and Accounting Professionals. As part of the research project, ICS will conduct a series of Roundtable Forums in the Caribbean and North America.

Under the theme, Caribbean Talent Across Borders: The Value of Global Mobility in Finance and AccountingICS hosted the first Roundtable Forum in Trinidad and partnered with the ACCA Caribbean Office to engage its members from the region to attend.

The event was held on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at the Savannah East, Port of Spain and moderated my Maxine Barnett, member of the ICS Program Board.

This research project looks at the experience of Caribbean nationals, including ACCA members and non-members, working in finance and accounting throughout the region, the United States, Canada and other parts of the world.
