George Willie has had a long career in public accounting with emphasis on the audits of healthcare, government and not-for-profit entities.  He lectures extensively on issues relating to the accounting profession and is fiercely committed to the inclusion of minorities in the accounting profession.

George currently serves as the U.S. representative to the Small and Medium Practices (SMP) Committee of the International Federation of Accountants. George is the former Chair and a current member of the Montgomery County Employees Retirement System – Board of Trustees.  He is a member of the AICPA’s National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion and a member of the audit committee of the American Institute for Research.

He serves on the Board of Visitors of Howard University School of Business and on the Dean’s Council of the Kogod School of Business – American University.  He is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the University of the District of Columbia, and currently chairs the Advisory Board for the Center for Accounting Education – Howard University.

George previously served on the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA);  and has chaired the AICPA Private Companies Practice Section.  He is the former Chair of the AICPA Minority Initiatives Committee and is a former member of the AICPA Board of Examiners (CPA Exam) and the Advisory Council (Yellow Book) Government Accountability Office (GAO).

A son, faculty of Excelsior – Kingston, Jamaica, George has remained loyal to his alma mater, providing significant sums to rebuild academic programs, and to support the school’s athletic program.

In 2013, the UWI/George S. Willie lecture series was launched at the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies.  The lectures are designed as public forums where the Jamaican public is invited to engage and dialogue with prominent international professionals.

George has also been a prominent supporter of the American Foundation for the University of the West Indies (AFUWI), and was the recipient of its 2015 Caribbean Luminary Award.

In 2016, George was elected as an Honorary Councilor of the National Council of the Philippine American Canadian Accountants in recognition of his years of financial and personal support of Filipino young professionals who are pursuing the CPA designation.

George has been recognized on numerous occasions by CPA Magazine and Accounting Today as one of the nations (USA) Most Influential Accountants.

Mr. Willie holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Magna Cum Laude) in accounting from Howard University and a Masters of Business Administration in finance from American University.

George and his wife Doreen, reside in Maryland and Florida (USA).  Their daughter Georgia is a practicing cardiologist and resides in Maryland (USA).
